Contracts don’t have to be scary, but doing business without one definitely is. If you're a photographer or creative tired of guessing what should be in your contract (or hoping for the best), this is your sign.

You're here! Welcome to the Contract Webinar...

Running a creative business without a solid contract is risky, and most photographers only realise this when something goes wrong. That’s where we come in.

We present to you, Good Story on the Couch’s first creative discussion. A LIVE, lawyer-led webinar all about contracts in the photography and videography industry.

This webinar cuts through the confusion and gives you the clarity you need to protect your work, your income, and your peace of mind. Created and organised by Good Story, together with trusted legal experts, this session includes a South African legal perspective, so you can be sure your contract is not only practical but also compliant with the laws that govern creative businesses in South Africa.

You’ll learn exactly what a strong photography contract must include, the red flags to watch out for, and how to confidently manage cancellations, payments, rescheduling, copyright, usage rights, and client communication.

Everything is explained simply, practically, and without legal jargon. If you’re ready for smoother bookings, stronger boundaries, and a contract that truly works for you, this webinar is your starting point. Your creativity deserves protection, so let’s make sure you have it.

Sumari

your Legal Professional

Hi, my name is Sumari Coetzee, and I am currently based in beautiful Cape Town as a legal professional. I studied BA Law and LLB at the University of Pretoria and later completed my Master’s in Shipping Law at UCT. After completing my articles earlier this year, I took some time off before commencing with the process of being admitted as an Attorney.

During my articles, I worked mainly in commercial and civil litigation which included drafting and reviewing contracts, and resolving disputes that often arose due to a breach of agreement. Through that, I realised just how important it is for people, especially creatives, to understand the basics of South African law and how to protect themselves.

I believe that law should empower rather than intimidate. When Melissa and Carla from Good Story reached out, I didn’t have to think twice. I met them about seven or eight years ago, and I’ve always admired how creative and full of integrity they are. What they are doing with this workshop is so significant and influential – it is about giving creatives the tools to confidently run their businesses, protect their work, and build relationships that last.

This workshop will quip creatives with practical legal understanding and empower them to understand their rights and responsibilities, especially under the Consumer Protection Act so that they can safeguard their work, relationships, and livelihoods.

Ultimately, through this workshop, we hope creatives will gain the confidence and freedom to focus on what they do best – creating meaningful, impactful work.

For me, law has always been about people, about serving well, building trust, and helping others feel safe and supported. That’s why I’m so passionate about this conversation and so excited to be part of it.

Can't wait to meet you!
